Study Abroad in Rome

Spend your summer living in vibrant Rome, immersing into local culture as you gain insight into Roman life. Enjoy hands-on learning as you go behind the scenes in artists’ workshops, local businesses, vineyards, and other sites and experiences that bring lessons learned in the classroom to life. You’ll gain true insight and feeling for your host culture, and develop the international cultural fluency you need to communicate and function effectively in an increasingly globalized world.

Where You'll Study

Courses at the CEA Rome Center are taught in English and allow you to explore and experience all that the Eternal City has to offer. The CEA Rome Center is in the vibrant Prati neighborhood, within walking distance of Vatican City, Castel Sant’Angelo, and other UNESCO World Heritage sites. This central location makes it easy to visit galleries, museums, art studios, local businesses, historic sites, food markets, and more—all designed to bring lessons taught in the classroom to life. Students will receive a transcript from the University of New Haven, CEA’s School of Record upon completion of their program.

Program Description

Spend your summer living in vibrant Rome, immersing into the local culture as you gain insight into Roman life. Enjoy hands-on learning as you go behind the scenes in artists’ workshops, local businesses, vineyards, and other sites and experiences that bring lessons learned in the classroom to life. You’ll gain true insight and feel for your host culture, and develop the international cultural fluency you need to communicate and function effectively in an increasingly globalized world.

Program Structure

Choose a 3-week or 6-week session. Each session, you'll enroll in 1 elective course. Elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Students in the 3-week session may earn up to a total of 3 credits (45 contact hours); students in the 6-week session may earn up to a total of 6 credits (90 contact hours). 

Classes meet 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday.

Prior to departure, you'll select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled in courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availability. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Courses at the CEA Rome Center allow you to explore and experience all that the Eternal City has to offer. Courses are taught in English and take full advantage of Roman history and culture, with a focus on active learning outside the classroom. Courses in all levels of Italian are available. The CEA Rome Center is in the vibrant Prati neighborhood, within walking distance of Vatican City, Castel Sant’Angelo, and other UNESCO World Heritage sites. This central location makes it easy to visit galleries, museums, art studios, local businesses, historic sites, food markets, and more—all designed to bring lessons taught in the classroom to life.

Where You'll Stay

When you study abroad in Rome, you can choose standard CEA housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.
