Domestic or Abroad: Study Abroad Program
Program Description:
HLTH 30000/HPEG50000
China: Culture, Health, Healing and Sport
Spring: (1 Credit)
Summer: (2 Credits; Prerequisite: Spring Course; limited to 14 students)

 
This program will not be offered in Summer 2021. Please check with studyabroad@ithaca.edu for updates on future program dates.
 
This course introduces philosophy and practice in health, prevention and rehabilitation, sport and physical education from a historical and cultural perspective. Students who take this course can choose to register a 2-week short-term study abroad course in summer to explore and experience the Chinese culture, Rehabilitation, and Health Promotion in a practical setting. When in China, the content covered in the class will be fulfilled with corresponding activities. Students will learn hands-on skills such as Chinese Massage, Cupping and Acupuncture, Martial Arts & Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Chinese Calligraphy etc. Students will also visit elite athletic training and research centers, and Chinese health care systems at national and regional levels.
 
* Student may choose to take this course for part of their major or minor requirement (Lib-Art or Diversity elective etc. Discuss with your academic advisor concerning major/minor requirement)
 
Estimated Summer Short-term Study in China Cost based upon Summer 2018 costs; future costs will vary)
Airfare: $1,900 (estimated: including both international and domestic)
Tuition: $2638 (2 summer credits based on summer 2018 rates. Summer 2019 rates will be released soon.)
Program Fee: $900 (Insurance, Lodging, Food, local transportation etc.)
Estimated Total Cost per student:  $5,438, plus VISA, and Passport.

How to apply:
  1. Complete the online OIP general application plus the supplementary application forms by application deadline. (Contact Mimi Wright in the Office of International Programs if you have questions about the application or need to report technical difficulties.
     
  2. Register for the course.
    1-credit hour for spring 
    2-credit hours for summer 
     
  3. Apply for Passport (if you do not have one). NOTE: Passport must be valid six months after the end date of the program.
     
  4. If selected, submission of $500 student confirmation deposit

Application Due Date: 
December 14, 2018 (Friday) Completed application online (including Recommendation letter & Judicial Record). 
Acceptance Notification: December 21, 2018 (Friday) (Primary + Waiting List) 
Register for the spring session, Block II: HLTH 30000/HPEG 50000: China: Culture, Health, Healing, and Sport 
Apply for Passport & Visa                   
NOTE: Passport must be valid through December 2019 !!!
Ithaca College will help obtain travel VISAs, but the cost is the responsibility of the student ($200 includes service fee). A check, passport photos (for VISA) and your passport are due to the Office of International Program by February 1, 2019. Students who choose to apply for a VISA on his/her own should have their VISA obtained by April 1st, 2019.
